Mirtos wrote:OK. somewhat annoyingly , my OH has just made a loaf in the BM of doom and it has turned out so much better than mine  HOWEVER, 58 mins before the end, it was gloriously risen and puffy looking, but by 30 mins to go had dropped about 2 inches. We didn't open the BM or make any loud noises. Why did this happen? It's quite tasty, but not as good as by hand IMO. More practice needed I think!
if you can't cure the over-rising & collapse any other way, try adding a little less water, then watching the dough as it mixes & if it seems a little dry, add more warm water a Tablespoon at a time till it looks right
or if the deed's already done & the dough looks too wet/soft, add more flour a Tablespoon at a time til it's right
it doesn't take much to upset a BM, they're fussy creatures :rolleyes:0 -

Thanks guys - I'll try altering the yeast and water content. The recipe is from the manual, and it is as follows:
600gr strong flour
310ml tepid water 1 tblsp veg oil 1 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp sugar 2 tblsp dried milk powder1 sachet dried active yeastThe recipe tells me to put the liquids in the pan first, with dried ingredients on top, and yeast in a well on top of the flour away from the water.OH's from last night did taste a bit better - we ate half the loaf within 10 mins, and he has taken it in sandwiches today, but I'd like it to LOOK nice too!Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095!
