Washing Machine recommendation

Hi All

Can anyone recommend a washing machine?

Looking for one that has the shortest cycle time if possible, don't want to spend hours waiting for a load to finish.

1600 rpm
about 6-7kg load

Any suggestions? Which brands should I steer clear of?

Any help appreciated!

When we last bought our washing machine our previous one had lasted about 12 years, it was a tricity bendix, fwiw. They were expensive compared to our budget at the time , and all my maintenance colleagues at the time were saying all lower priced brands were about the same, no washing machine would last more than 2 or 3 years, that it was pot luck. Mieles have a fantastic name, but their price was too high for us.

So we just bought the machine that had a decent spin speed and a big load capacity, hoped we could get something in the UK and was cheap or on special offer at the time. The only brand I avoided was Beko, can't remember why.

So far, so good, never had a day's bother with it, and it's been about 5 years we've had it.:D

Had to go check for you, it's a Hotpoint, 6kg load, 1600 spin speed, made in Great Britain on the front (we like to support UK manufacturing when we can as we work in the same sector)

It's used almost daily, but never overloaded and never used with too much washing powder or fabric softener (they clog the pipes and cause no end of bother imho)

Don't forget to go through Quidco or similar, but remember John Lewis will normally price match and offers extended guarantees compared to other retailers.:) Pricerunner is a good place to start, they often point you in a directino you hadn't thought of (like Co-op electrical - we got our fridge from there on a great deal!)

Like everything else on the market place, their are only a handful of manufacturers making all the brands available, so you could end up paying more for a near identical machine just because it's branded with a different name.
This may be of use to you...

I've had my Indesit for 18yrs now and it's still going strong. In all that time, it's only broken down twice and the repairs have cost less than £150 in total. The last repair was last October ( cost £45) and the engineer said to keep hold of it because there's a good 6-8yrs life left in it.

I use that alongside a Bosch tumble dryer that I've had for 14yrs and has only broken down once, again, last October and the repair cost £37.
The pair are worth their weight in gold to me, especially with the winter we've just had. ;)

I only use Bosch appliances, never had a problem at all with a washing machine dishwasher, tumble drier and fridge freezer
