I have been reading random articles that people have with the Netgear Router in combination with ADSL2+. They basically say that v4 is better in performance, presumably because it has a Broadcom chipset in place of the earlier model's TI-AR7 (MIPS32.

My ISP issues Speedtouch 585s which some say has better margins than the Netgears. I can get one for p+p only under conditions. What would be advice of tecchie minded members?

Current stats
Connection 6514
Attenuation44 or 45
SNR 9

BTW what chipset does the ST have?

The ST 585 v7 uses the Broadcom 6338 chip.

All versions of the Netgear DG834 are rock solid.

I am with BE and have had a nightmare with the thompson's overheating and causing problems also. I am also not a fan of netgear, i have fitted them many a time for many different people and they often get problems 6 - 12month later. However if you can get the netgear for P&P I would give it a go over the tompson. It is still the better one out of the two.

I am using a Linksys WAG320N for my ADSL 2+ now and not had any problems since installation (Quite a while ago). Speeds are better than the thompson's for me too. I have used the Linksys's (pretty much all the range) across different places and not had any problems yet. The new stuff from linksys is brilliant, since cisco took over the interfaces and hardware seems much improved.
