use of RSS feed on a new small website, an idiot's guide please!

Me: owner of new website

interested in enabling readers to know when new content has been added, to those who are interested.

Anyone prepared to tell me in very basic terms what's possible and how I'd go about it?

dogmary, what control do I have over the way that renders on the page, can it be governed by my stylesheet do you know?

Another very, very dumb question, say I have it on my page, and I upload new content, how is the subscribed user 'told', and what does it look like?

I just use blogger with feedburner to create an RSS feed and have also got the blog set to update to Twitter.
