Courgettes not coming up ....

Does the base of the main stalk go a very dark green in comparison to the rest of the plant?0

My courgettes have been growing nicely in pots for about a month. I planted two in the garden on Saturday and this morning I found they had both had a leaf eaten by slugs! This is my first experience at growing anything. They each have about six leaves and look too large for pots. Any suggestions? Should I try and keep the leaves off the ground by supporting the stem? Would a moat ayound them help?0

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. I normally have brilliant courgettes every year but this year I planted them exactly the same way as normal but only two have come up. I planted them over month ago. In the past they have all come up at the same time. I've had a dig around today and can find no shoots or anything. The seeds seem to have vanished. MAybe it was the bad weather - I just don't know.
Does anyone know what has happened or has this happend to anyone? I really don't thinks anything is eating them because in my other veg patch my carrotts, leaks, parsnips and spring onions are coming up brilliantly.
it souns as if you put your courgette seed outside?
Well I planted mine inside in the propagator in early May when good weather was forecast, and got very few. I planted again last week and every single one came up.
Just was not enough sun and they rotted. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I sowed 4 seeds outside under cloches and 4 seeds in my potting shed, both lots at the same time, only the seeds in the potting shed have germinated so far. I'm assuming the ones outside weren't keen on the cold soil, lucky I've got the potting shed back-ups.0

I've sown 4 seeds at least 4-6 weeks ago, can't quite remember when now. They did come up, the seed leaves anyhow, but then stalled for what seemed like weeks. Now we've had a few days of warm weather, they are growing again, getting normal leaves now, had to pull one this evening as really only room for 2 plants.
Don't give up!0 -
I went on a slug hunt last night and got seven of them. This morning there was no more signs of any more damage. I will continue doing this until I stop finding them.0
