laptop memory compatibility

Is it OK to use PC2-6400 800MHz ram in a laptop that is designed for PC2-5300 667MHz. I'm assuming that the PC2-6400 will run quite happily at the lower speed. Just that PC2-6400 is quite a bit cheaper than PC2-5300 right now.

it should work fine, if it doesnt you could always take it back and say that its not working, get your money back

Should be fine, did exactly the same when I wanted some old PC2100, PC2700 was a lot cheaper.Move along, nothing to see.0

check the voltages are the same and you should be good to go, faster chips are usually very good at recognising what the system wants and downlocking to suit.
Also, you probably realised this but laptops usually use SO-DIMMS, smaller chips than DIMMS used in desktops.0 -
