Urgent - help needed with parking ticket

I hope you can help me with this parking ticket problem.

My wife took her ill mum to the doctors this morning, and at the doctors the car park is pretty small so the spaces fill up very quickly. Historically people visiting the dcotors could park in the pub car park next door, where there were some dedicated overspill parking spaces. So as the doctors car park was full, she parked in one of the overspill spaces in the pub car park. She walked into the doctors, where the receptionist asked her, did you park in the pub car park, because if she had then she would get a ticket. So my wife rushed back to the car, 3 minutes after parking it, but there was already a ticket on it, for £80, going up to £120 if not paid in 14 days. There are signs up in the car park saying that if you do not have a permit then you will be liable to a fine of £80, but the bit about the fine is in small writing and the signs are at least 8ft of the ground, so not completely visible if you are in a car. My wife hadn't noticed these as it was pouring with rain and she was helping her Mum out of the car. Do we have any grounds to dispute this ticket? I think given that this happened on private land, my rights are limted, but does anyone know if I have a chance to fight this? It seems really unfair. The ticket was written one minute after she parked the car, so the attendant must have been watching and waiting. Are there any regulations that have to be followed? Do the signs have to be a certain size and contain specific information?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks
Dharmesh

It does sound fairly harsh for her to have been ticketed so quickly but looking at it from the other point of view there was signs - even if they werent prominent (they are able to catch people out more easy!)

Have you tried speaking to the company who ticketed it and see what they say - though if you get a sympathetic person you will probably have been very lucky! You should be able to appeal though I am unsure on the procedures when its a private company who ticket?
