Lawnmower problem

My OH used to cut the grass, but we have recently split up and I need to do it.
The problem is that I have a Honda i2Y petrol lawnmower with a briggs and stratton engine.
I think I am going mad, as I am following the instructions, or trying to, to get the damn thing started.
There is oil and petrol in it, as was used a few weeks ago.

The situation is that according to the instruction there should be a primer button, but I have searched with a magnifying glass lol, and cant find the primer button which according to the instructions that I have has to pushed in 5 times before I pull.

I have followed the actual diagrams, ie no 1 is etc, no 2 is etc and so forth, I have found all the other components, but not the primer button, yet it says no 8 is the primer button.

There is a small box on the side that says auto choke, so why would I need a primer button? or do I still need one, I dont want to mess around with it, but if someone can tell me if I do need a primer button, and where the hell is it, or dont I need one if its automatic choke.
Surely the instructions cant be wrong, can they?

Please please help as want to cut the grass.:(

I have a huge petrol driven Mountfield and it was the very devil to get going.

The primer button is a soft, red rubbery ball near the engine. You press it a few times and it injects fuel into some place and other, so that the engine can start from cold. (I've no idea how it works - how can you tell? :D)

This is how I get it to start.

4 presses on the red rubber ball.

Put one foot on the mower to steady myself.

Very gently pull the cord out and then let it go back in.

Repeat the action - I can feel the resistance in the cord.

Take the cord in both hands. Steady yourself with your foot still on the mower

    Start praying.

Give it the biggest, strongest, quickest pull you can manage with both hands starting from my left ankle and finishing above my right shoulder.

Splutter, splutter, pop, pop, lots of smoke and then va-va-voom.

I also went to Aldi and got myself a little electric lawn-mower. It starts first time, it's as light as a feather, it cuts the grass brilliantly and I've had it for 5 years without any bother. I take it out far more than the Mountfield because I can manage it.

I really, really sympathise with your plight! :( Hope my tips help you.
