He is trying to justify the tax break. As said before the government will only do things to protect the economy and not house prices especially in a time when there is no money left.
To be honest the inheritence tax breaks for properties worth up to 1m was one of the Tories most embarrassing policies and this was shown in the live debates when Cameron could not justify the reasons behind it.0 -

You may have been very fortunate in having been old enough to buy a house when they were more sensibly priced, but spare a thought for those who were not blessed with the opportunity of having been born into such an era.
Each gloating post you make about home ownership becoming a more and more exclusive position to be in, is akin to me poking fun at someone who has no arms and telling them that they'll never be able to play a piano concerto!
On a side note, my parents are in the process of trying to sell their second home in Yorkshire to clear off some debt they've got into (No I will not be able to rely on the bank of mum and dad). Their estate agent has been very frank with them and advised them that they are now facing a lot of competition due to an influx of properties onto the market.0 -

The cynic in me sees this as an EA ploy to encourage them to lower their expectations. Your parents should be aware: when an EA has you on their books, they're normally looking for a quick sale rather than for the best price.0
