Take a look at http://www.fuelsaving.info/

It is written by a professional automotive engineer from the UK who has some excellent ideas on how to drive more economically and therefore save fuel. He also has some interesting opinions on whether the numerous fuel saving additives and gadgets are real or snake oil (guess which most of them are? :))

The site is a really interesting read and is definitely in my bookmark list as something to come back to occasionally.

The website was in a thread that got deleted yesterday because the thread poster was the owner of the website. Self promotion isn't allowed on MSE. Rules are rules, but the site was really interesting so I have posted it here for everyone to see - and as I have nothing to do with the site I'm not breaking any rules.

  • Thanks Mike. I understand the logic that lead to the thread being deleted before (especially since I doubt the Abuse team had the time to study my site in detail and decide on its merits), but I'm glad to see it back all the same.

As before, I'm happy to discuss any issues with what I have written, either on this board or via PM or email. Criticisms, queries and suggestions for improvements are all equally welcome.

I am glad the link is back on here. The site is very useful. Especially the feature about Fuel Additives and Injection Cleaners etc. Also the info on premium fuels was interesting too.

Kudos to you on a great, informative website. :)
  • Thanks for a link to a really useful site.

My other half does 25k a year, and our 7 year old Almera has just clocked 108K.
It doesn't burn oil, and runs fine but for the first few seconds after start up it's bit noisy as the tappets and cam chain sort themselves out.

I was seriously considering buying a bottle of Slick 50, but having read the site's findings I won't bother as the car's always had regular maintainance using quality oil.

Very interesting site, lots of information, but most of it is based solely on the opinion of the author, who probably knows a hell of a lot more about the subject than i do, but it is still just an opinion, and obviously very limited research into each device, but 10/10 for an informative read and definatly 10/10 for effort, ive put it in my favourites folder

That's a fair criticism, though not totally true. In a few cases I also offer links to definitive tests that prove a particular device doesn't work.
