Credit card right

Hello, got a quick question here. I paid 165pound to City Moves with credit card to book our moving date. They said the money is refundable. Last 2 weeks, I tried to call them to cancel our agreement but they never come back to me about the refund despite that I left 3 messages and spoke to 2 different people.

Its says in the agreement, if I cancel it 10 days early, there would be no charge.(By today, its a month from our moving date)

My question is, what is my right? Can I call credit card company and say that they money is refundable and we dont want to pay it?

Thanks for your help!

Worth raising it with the card company but they'll probably prefer you to keep on pursuing the moving company for the refund. Have you put anything in writing to the moving company and sent it recorded delivery so they can't deny any knowledge of the request for the refund?

Tell your credit card company of your trouble now so that they know that you've been trying to cancel well within the period during which there should be no charge to cancel. That'll put you in a stronger position later. Ask your credit card company whether they would like to contact the merchant now to try to prevent them from having a larger problem later.
  • We are looking to apply for a credit card, currently thnking about getting the tesco clubcard credit card, although we want to use it to buy a car and pay it over with the 0% over 12 months. However, we wondered if this is possible. Could anyone tell us which 0% cards allow you to transfer the balance to your bank account to purchase such things as a car? Many thanks

Virgin or any other card backed by MBNA plus a few others. It's called a super balance transfer (SBT) in that table but when discussing it with credit card companies the correct term is a balance transfer from your current account. From because it's a debt you're transferring from the current account to the card.

For other cards you can do it by getting an Egg Money card and doing a balance transfer from Egg Money to the other card. Then you can transfer the in credit balance from Egg Money to your current account. It's cheaper than the SBT fee even for some MBNA cards that let you do an SBT, their regular card to card fee is 3%, not 4%, so you can save 1% of the fee this way.

A cheaper way of doing it if you have time is putting all possible spending on a 0% for spending card and putting the money you spend into a savings account. The savings account pot is what you use to buy the car once you've accumulated enough. No balance transfer fee this way. Once the 0% deal approaches its end you either do a balance transfer or do the spending method on a new card to accumulate enough to repay the first card.
