Revealed: the grubby tactics used by Santander to deny fraud refunds

thanks for this. i recently called santander because my mortgage is with them and the woman on the phone managed to persuade me to switch my account (they offer 5 percent interest but only for the first year and up to first £2500). however having read this i changed my mind and called them up.
they refused to close the account down on the phone - even though it had been set up that way and they hadn't even started the process of moving my direct debits across - and insisted i had to go to a branch. so i then went into a branch where they said i could only close it down on the phone!!
if that experience is anything to go by i'm really glad i haven't gone with them.
needless to say i wasn't impressed. they were really unhelpful. eventually persuaded them to close the (not fully opened) account. they insisted on seeing my id (passport AND driving licence) even though they hadn't bothered to check this to 'open' the account in the first place. it was just chance i had them with me. think they were just trying to make it hard. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Your story made me laugh, what a bunch of clowns these people are. It is obvious that some of the staff are woefully unaware of the company's own procedures. I would not trust them to make me a cup of coffee. Santander is a wannabe bank. All the best.Money is a wise mans religion0
