I don't know if it's okay to ask here or if i would need to start another thread....but wanted to ask if my Identity Card for Foreign Nationals (ICFN) would be an acceptable form of ID for employment? since i have sent in my passport for renewal. (i'm a non-EU national)0

Of course not - and P45 isn't much use either. The poster to whom I was replying indicated that the P45 they had was issued in the last tax year (given that payslips were more than a year old) and therefore wouldn't be used for tax purposes this tax year but completion of a P46 would start sorting that out. (Obviously I should keep tax separate from right to work in a single thread.)P46 is no use for the purpose of proving ID or right to work ...0 -
I refer you to the link I gave on the first page. If only it were that simple: a P46 is no use for RtW checks, ever, but a recent enough P45 with other documentation IS useful for RTW, because it has your NINo on it and shows that you HAVE been working. It doesn't have to be within the right tax year for that purpose, just issued within a certain number of months.anamenottaken wrote: »Of course not - and P45 isn't much use either. However, to be useful for TAX purposes, a P45 has to have been issued within the current tax year.
If the P45 and payslips were over a year old, then no, in that case they'd be no use for either.
Are we all clear now? :rotfl: As mud, I suspect ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Hi SS
I think we are saying the about same thing.
Originally I did say the P45 (which I assumed was not for the current year) was not of much use (perhaps I should have said no use) other than providing the NI number (which does not prove right to work).
I mentioned the P46 only in relation to getting tax sorted out if the person started work not having a current year P45.0
