How far ahead do dealers know when new models are to be launched (VW)?

I've just found out that VW have withdrawn the Golf SE and replaced it with a Golf Match trim.
The news seems to have been made public on 19 May but does anyone know when main VW dealerships would have been told about it? I see it's all over the VW website and new brochures are available so I'm sure it must have been at least a few weeks ago.
Anyone in the know?

Well, that doesnt actually constitute a new model does it? Surely thats just a different trim?0

True, but the new 'trim' comes with lots of extra features both inside and out. It's a big step up from the old trim. Surely dealers would have advance notice of this in order to (hopefully) advise new car buyers that they might not be able to get them the SE model because, with VW lead times, they wouldn't be able to supply it?Norn Iron Club Member 330

In September the 2011 model variant will be announced and your car will instantly be out of date. And so on and so on.The man without a signature.0

OK I've been going on a bit ......
It's complicated. Let's say dealer, deposit, misrepresentation.

Things are going to keep changing all the time. Its a bit like trying to identify the optimum moment to buy a computer - there really isnt one except the time you need/want it.0

It'll be swings and roundabouts. The discount available on a Golf Match will be much less that you probably got on the SE.0 -
In my experience they generally dont know and if they do its not officially but through what they pick up in motoring magazines.
Sales people focus on what they have to sell that day. They want orders that count for that month not six months time.
There are exceptions such as limited edition models where the allocation is one per dealer or less but generally they want to move the metal, get the deposit, put the order in and move onto the next one.
You wouldnt moan at tescos a week later as a new can of baked beans has been (or bean) released with a newer sell by date.
It may be the biggest purchase you make this year but to the saleman its one of 20-50 sales he will do this month.0
