Sports shops

Sports shops are not sports shops anymore, they are just tat static nylon t-shirt and garish trainer shops.

Want a cricket bat, or any cricket equipment? Don’t try a sports shop. Want linseed oil to treat a cricket bat? The gormless teenager will look at you as if you’re not speaking English. Oh they’ve got a baseball mitt, no problem there, handy that, if you’re an American wanting to play baseball in small post industrial northern town, you’re in luck.

Want seemingly any piece of equipment to actually play a sport? Rugby ball? Try somewhere else, unless you want an NFL approved grid iron ball.

Want an overpriced t-shirt for a football team? Got racks of them. Premiership, Scottish Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, even the Bundesleague.

Want a shirt for the local League 2 side? Sorry mate, don’t stock it, have you tried the club shop?

So I can buy a shirt for a club halfway around the world, but not one for the club that is actually in the town? Eh? What kind of mad sick world are we living in?

Chain sports shops utterly suck. Utterly suck.
I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven

    Yeah spot on!

I play a lot of badminton and squash. Even getting trainers for those sports is near impossible on the high street. I dont know about cricket, but all my raket sport needs are served by https://www.centralsports.co.uk. Perhaps there is someone that knows good reputable websites for other sports?

Totally agree Saucepot! Lucikly near where I live we have a superb running shop with staff that are knowledgable and friendly. Chain 'sports' shops are awful.
  • And the music they play..... It's like being in a nightclub.

I completely agree with you Saucepot

I was a retail manager of two sport shops before I had master kips and we had a 6 week intensive training program on all aspects of the goods and equipment we sold, had training on how to fit sportshoes properly and I was also (well still am I spose!) a trained Adidas, Nike and Reebok footwear specialist...I could bore you to death on trainers :D and also customer service training, I seemed to leave at the right time, they phased all this out much to my disgust and then promptly lost profits and got taken over twice!! (the latter being JJB sports who I hate with a passion!!!)

but alas nowadays all you get is your shoes shoved at you to try on and the box taken to the till for you....where's the customer service in that

sorry does grate on me a little...can you tell
