I found one of these evil pests on my oriental lillies today and is seems to have made a good start on eating the leaves already (no flowers for them to eat as yet). I evicted it from the container, but want to know what the chances of survival for my lillies are and also if I am likely to have a infestation of them? Are they very common?
Funnily enough my Mum warned me about them today and when I got home I had a look and found one.

Unless you are very lucky there will be more.
I had some years ago, cannot remember the exact spray I used but it was not much more than some type of household fly/bug killer, inspected the plants daily and sprayed them whenever I saw the uninvited guests, seemed to work in terms of no noticeable damage to the plants but the little bugs kept coming back but never in great numbers.
Slightly more orthodox methods here

While it looks easy to just pick them off, you never get them all and they multiply very fast.
It's about the only pest I spray straight away now, no mucking about anymore. I do it just before it gets dark, so hopefully the bees have gone home.0 -
I have been tackling these for weeks now .. The best way to deal with them is to pick them straight off .. I use a jam jar with some soap, drop of bleach and water and drop them straight into it .. The only spray that works is Bayer provado bug spray .. doesn't work to well on the adults but kills the laeve ..
