Can I cancel an order?

I ordered a bed today at 5pm from a local shop and paid £200 deposit and will be delivered on Thursday - I have returned home to find that the carpet I was due to have fitted Wednesday won't be and will have to be put on hold for a while due to work commitments now. Can I cancel the bed order (I assume it won't have been sent through to the manufacturer yet). If I ring first thing in the morning will I be able to cancel it and get my money refunded. I am aware there is a cooling off period etc if done online but is this the case for me?

Surely you can rearrange delivery of the bed for next week?

It could be weeks before I can sort more time off. I aim to try but if I can't it may be too late to cancel if they have then sent the order to be made etc

You are having the carpet fitted next week, surely you will be home then?

Something does not add up - why do you want to cancel the order?

No I am not having it fitted next week - as i said they can't do it when they said they could so that is now on hold until i can have time off work. I don't want to end up paying storage costs etc if the bed can't be delivered

So it is nothing to do with your concerns on the other thread about the bed you have ordered?

As you ordered at a shop you have no legal right to cancel. The retailer may allow you to do so as a goodwill gesture, but may retain the deposit if they so wish.

There is no "legal" cooling off period if you ordered in store.

You will have to hope the store will be kind (unless they have a returns policy you can use)

If you still want the bed your best bet maybe to see if the store can delay delivery and let them hold on to the deposit.

I didn't order that bed - I followed the advice of the friendly chap over there and ordered one to his specifications and of a brand he had on previous threads said to be good quality (and in the process saved £120) I now just don't want to spend the saved money on storage costs. I simply came here to ask if I could cancel the order if it was placed in a shop as I would be able to if it was done online.

In that case, see above for the answer.

What storage costs? Have they said they will charge you? I would expect them to hold it until you are ready.

Hopefully there won't be any - I was just pre-empting as a large chain who sells sofas wanted to do this years ago when our move was delayed by a week. If there isn't any it will be fine. I like to know what my rights are when dealing with this sort of thing and a general google search just seemed to bring up distance selling stuff. I also figured it would be something useful to know.
