Hi.
I am due to move into my new flat this coming week. As of yet i cannot complete my claim till i have a tenancy agreement. I can take this in on The friday which is my moving day so that should not be a problem. The problem is with child benefit. They still have not sent me a change of certs letter so i don't have proof of CB which the council need to process my claim.
If i do not receive this letter by friday, can i still claim HB and have it backdated when the letter does come through..?

Put your claim in on the day you move in. Explain that you do not have all the required evidence. They will allow you a few weeks to supply that information, you will not need to apply for backdating.Gone ... or have I?0

Hi, i have started my claim already. well applying for it. She gave me a sheet with stuff they needed to process the claim, that was a couple of weeks or so ago. Do you think it will be ok then if i go in on friday with the tenancy agreement and just say i am waiting on a letter from CB...?0 -

If you are already in the 'information gathering' stage, you will need to ask them to extend it. It is not usually a problem.Gone ... or have I?0 -
hi,
You could bring your bank statement showing CB payments. If you have a got a previous HB claim for the same local authority- then they shouldn't be asking for proof of CB again.0 -

Hi no previous claim i am afraid... I have a bank statement with the tax credits payments, so that is sorted, just waiting on a child benefit letter
which seems to be taking forever. I don't think i will receive a payment anytime soon as i have asked to be put onto weekly pay but they say it has to be sent off to some office for it to be done. Why the ell they can't just log onto my account and do it with my permission over the phone i'll never know.0 -
Hi Orville,
i Know it can be quite frustating awaiting for HB claim to be assessed. You have provided your 2 wages slips(for you and your pt) or ( proof of income support)- bank statements ( last 2 months), tenancy agreement, proof of id for you and children: Then the hb caseworker could assess your claim soon.
In my experience new claims are taking around 3-6 weeks to be processed.
Good luck.0
