your LHA will be based on a one bedroom rate for the area before the baby arrives so, if the rent is higher than that you will need to make up the difference

like everything in this country, if you want to work but can't get a job you get NO help.

Apart from HB/LHA for your parents' house!

Where are you both living at the moment? Is being a tenant of your Father's going to be a long term arrangement?

But most private rentals will not take people on benefits.

In some cases, they will accept them if they can provide a guarantor or additional months rent upfront. Will your parents act as guarantors for you or loan you six months rent which you can pay back as you receive the LHA.

In answer to Jewo yes they will. To Hermum he is with his Mum & Dad and I am with mine. As you can appreciate when the baby is born we want to be together but living with either parents is out of the question for all sorts of reasons.

My partner has always worked until he lost his job in March. This is the first time he has been unemployed and it's not a position he wants to be in for any longer than he needs but like everything in this country, if you want to work but can't get a job you get NO help. It seems to be the ones who don't want to work and have no intension of working get all the help. And that my friend in a nut shell is why this country is 165 billion pounds in debt.

Sometimes the OP gets a rough deal on these forums.

But here we have a couple who chose to have a baby (or did not try not to) and now need the state to provide their income, their home and their security.

Then she blames those very people for the nations debt problems (which again is tosh).

My HB knowledge is a bit out of date, but unless the tenancy is contrived then you can rent off your parents, provided they don't also live there. You will need a rent book and a proper tenancy agreement. http://www.ownershipoptions.org.uk/pdf/Buying%20to%20let%20to%20a%20relative.pdf I am an ex Housing Benefit Officer.

You could try Housing Associations instead.

Thank you to Patchwork Cat and all the other (constructive) advice I received on this forum. I will now make an appointment to get the ball rolling.

Many thanks again for taking the time to reply.

The OP should also take a look at SHELTERS website and could even telephone their freephone number for advice

My understanding is that there is only a legal requirement for a landlord to provide a rent book if the rent is paid weekly.
