Hand, foot and mouth disease and air travel!!

I think (pretty certain) that my daughter has hand, foot and mouth disease, and we're due to fly to bugaria on Monday. I'm not worried about the illness as it's quite mild and viral, but will we be ok to fly??? I know it sounds daft but just thinking back to the swine flu hysteria.....

Thanks.

Have you asked NHS Direct, and the airline? You need to get an official answer, not opinions from a forum.
    Gone ... or have I?

our two had chickenpox when we were in the US a few weeks ago, doctors and airlines were both happy for them fly. in the end the volcano stopped us coming home and they were clear before we had to go to the airport. i would call nhs direct to put your mind at rest.

Officially, children are allowed to attend school with it so I can't see there being a problem with air travel.

HF&M is nothing to do with Foot & Mouth Disease nor anything to do with Swine Flu.

However it is infectious for the first week and a flight is not a good idea - and it's likely the child is going to be uncomfortable anyway

It might be quite mild and viral in your daughter, but there may be people on the flight whose health could be compromised by such an infection - definitely check with a health professional.

I remember being very surprised a few years ago when a friend came down with chickenpox (was the third time she'd had it, too!) in Barbados - she was quarantined in her hotel room, was not allowed out to fly home until totally clear They used to leave food outside her door, they were so scared of catching anythig. Apparently they don't have chickenpox there, and don't want it, either!

Thanks for the replies, am trying to get an official answer and will let you know what they say.

It's def hand foot and mouth and although dd is fine in herself, she has some horrible sores in her mouth bless her.

Ever had one of those holidays you weren't meant to go on?? This is ours!! We booked 8 days ago, and just after we left the travel agents my dad phoned to say my mum has a brain aneurysm and she's been in hospital ever since and lined up for an op next week!!
