Sink Waste - push button or coin type?

I need to get a chrome waste for my sink and I wondered which is better out of the push putton pop up waste and the coin ones?
Also what is the difference between a slotted and unslotted waste?
Thanks

If the sink has a built in overflow. (Some ceramic sinks do) then you need to use an un-slotted waste. If the sink does not have a built in overflow then you need to use a slotted waste so that the overflow can be connected. As to pop up or coin. You pay your money and take your choice. I expect that half of any replies will advocate one type and the other half will advocate the alternative.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
The simpler the better, we have a push button waste in our cloakroom and the spring's dodgy, it's a good brand too.0

pop up are rubbish they always go wrong at some point0

I thought it was unslotted if you don't have an overflow (which we don't)??
We had a coin waste at our old house but ebay seems to be full of the pop up type now, so wondered if there were better. Clearly not it seems from your replies! Thanks0 -

To be honest I personally done think either of these are suitable for a sink
I have never seen either of these fitted on a kitchen sink ever
You would be better off with a basket type waste or a normal plug and chain.0 -

Sorry I wasn't very clear, it's for a basin/sink in a downstairs loo.0 -
Another vote for slotted being needed for internal overflow
I wouldn't bother with a pop-up waste myself (even though I sell them as part of my day job) You can't go wrong with a bit of black rubber on a chain. But I'm old fashioned like that

Ive just bought a pop up waste, and expect the spring to go at some point but a replacement from B&Q seems cheap enough. I do quite like the coin type wastes as they look quite smart but the trouble is you can never remove the coin to give the waste a good clean.
My girlfriend has one in her bathroom basin and the grime/hair build up in the flter bit under the coin is disgusting, but you cant get at it to clean it. You cant use a liquid hair/drain unblocker either as it just runs striaght passed it.
All in all, as much as I think the coin type looks smarter, in the long run the push waste may look nicer after time.
