How do I work out how much elec oven uses ?

Hi, i'm trying to work out how much it costs to have the oven on. The only thing I have is that it's energy consumption is 0.79Kwh. Sorry for being thick, but does this mean it uses 0.79Kwh of elec when it's on for an hour ?

How do I then work out how much per hour it costs ? If it's 0.79Kwh per hour then I can just x it by the cost of 1Kwh ?

Any ideas ? Cheers.

Yes you are correct, it will consume at ost 0.79KwH every hour its switched on.
If it has a thermostat then it will be less than this.
If you electricity costs 15pence per Kwh then it will be costing you 0.79 x 15 = 11.85 pence/hour

Are you sure about the rating it seems a bit low unless its a mini oven.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I got the rating off currys website as I can't find the booklet for mine. Its a basic Neff fan oven. I looked at the power rating on the details page at currys. I Will go and double check on another website. Yes that seems abit cheap to me ! Thanks

Where did you get the figure of 0.79kWh from?

The rating panels on an appliance rate power as kW i.e. no 'h'.

If it is a normal oven then the kW rating will be much higher than 0.79kW

How much any oven uses is impossible to tell as it depends on the temperature at which it is set and how long it is used for.

I got 0.79Kwh from the currys website. On the Neff website it says Total connected load 7.2KW, is this the figure ?

I would say 0.79 kWh sounds about right for an oven - it puts it at the border of A/B energy classes.

I have no idea what the test parameters are, though. (I presume it would be 10 minutes preheat plus x0 minutes at 1y0 degrees, or whatever.) But 0.79 kWh does not sound unreasonable for a thirty minute session.

If it is 0,79 kW (NOT kWh as already pointed out !) it's a b****y small oven ! It's power rating has absolutely nothing to do with it's energy classification.
Apart from which, just supposing it is 0.79 kW and you leave it on for an hour it will probably consume about half that figure as the thermostat cuts in and out.

Sit and watch the light for an hour and watch it go on and off !

Rated at 7.2kW would almost certainly mean it is a double oven.

Again there is no way of determining how much electricity it will use over a period of time i.e. the kWh.

All the 7.2kW means is that it can take that power with everything switched on and until it gets up to heat, then it will take nothing for a couple of minutes and cycle on and off.

If you really want to know, switch off everything you can(unplug fridge/freezer) and read your meter very accurately, switch on oven and read again an hour later.

Neither I nor the OP have suggested the oven is a 0.79 kW oven. We have stated that the energy classification 'standard load' test #8 as listed on that label on the front of the machine is 0.79 kWh. That is a bog standard result for an A/B class medium oven. It seems a perfectly reasonable number for a session from a box with a bit of insulation and a fan.

I would assume, since it is used as a standard measure for a retail label on a domestic box, that is does have some correlation to a typical session. Whether that is a half hour session or a one hour session or what I have no idea.
