Amex - won't let me do a transfer without an offer??

Options
I was a little surprised today when I called Amex to do another transfer to my card.

I applied and received it in May, I'm still within the 6 months introductory rate for transfers, so have been using the card soley for this purpose. Only today, I rang up and wanted to do a transfer (perhaps my fourth transfer), and I was told I cannot do this without an offer from American Express.

I know that they can decline such things, I wouldn't mind if it was because I'd done too many transfers to it, but to say I can't put more debt onto the card without an offer seems a bit strange... you'd think they'd welcome the extra interest wouldn't you?

Has anyone else had this?

I beleive AmEx were pulling out of the Balance transfer market, so its not personal :)
  • But they said that the offer was still valid for old customers, not new. I think you will have to look for their press release, online if possible, and go back to them and point this out, I would ask to speak with a manager, I know they are being difficult about honouring their pledge.

    Good luck!!!
