Warranty Direct(WD)-Policy info please

Options
Hi

I purchased Extra cover policy for my car from Warranty Direct in Sept 09. I never received the printed version of the policy document and the electronic version which I stored in the computer has gone with broken hard drive! Now, my claim has been refused as it is not covered; but on their website it says it does cover the part. There is no way to prove that the old version did not include this info. Does anyone has the same policy purchased before April 10. It is the tracker ends on page 6 of the policy under the heading steering.

Thanks.

Sam

  • Track rod ends? I can't see that being an expensive job. You've learnt an expensive lesson, in that extended warranties are generally useless.

I looked at them when considering a second hand purchase and I thought they were as much good as a chocolate fire-guard with more holes in them than Swiss cheese.

I decided to buy a new car.
  • Agreed, better to self insure by putting an amount to one side for repairs, i sometimes read of good service from warranty companies...but the stories are never from regular trusted posters which makes me wonder.

Self insurance is fine but if you take a £5000 budget, most people blow the whole £5000 on the car, then end up with insurance on the never never, despite horrendous implicit or internal interest rates and there is just no money for repairs. Then comes the tax, the ongoing insurance payments and not a lot left over. Why ? because if they could afford more than £5000 they would have just bought a more expensive car !

With a £5000 budget, you'd really have to think about £3500 to £4000 for the car with the other £1000 to £1500 for the insurance, tax and repairs or the insurance excess. But that means less "bling" and less car to show off to their peer group. Cars are aspirational items to many and that clouds the judgement. What they need is transport to get to work and back, not a flash motor to show off when deposits for a property purchase or pension fund contributions would be better investments and ones which might one day mean they can bypass the second hand market and buy the nice car they really want !

Perhaps a decent comparison to a car warranty is the after market extended guarantees which electrical retailers try and flog when you buy a fridge, despite the fact that if the thing breaks down early, it is going to breach guidelines on the length of time it should last for. Extrapolate the £250 fridge 20 or 40 times and they prey on people's lack of knowledge and worry.
  • It was expensive to replace. I have learned a expensive lesson indeed.
