Options
Going from virgin to sky package (package better due to lack of money!!) and my problem is that my computer is upstairs (not wireless) so got a router from sky that has to be plugged into bt socket downstairs. Brought the thingy(!) that makes it wireless but what one do I plug in first the sky router or the wireless thingy!! (sorry did say I am a beginner!!) Computer is about 7 years old and running slow at present - will it work faster if i put it closer to router??

    Hi there,

The router should already be setup for wireless so all you need to do is plug the wireless adapter (if that is what you have bought for the PC) in. After installing the drivers etc it should pop up with avaliabe networks, select the sky one and away you go.

The speed of the wireless will depend on your distance away from the router. Check out this link for more info and good luck.

It doesn't matter, it won't connect until you select the wireless network on the PC and enter the encryption code.
If the router does not already have wireless enabled then you will have to make the initial connection by ethernet and adjust the settings accordingly.

    Plug in Sky first.

Wait for 5 minutes and check all the lights are green.

Then go upstairs and plug the wireless thing into the PC.

Then install the drivers (it might do it for you, it might ask you for the disk).

Then it will pop up a message saying something like "networks are available".

Look through the list to find the Sky one - it will be called something like SKYxxxxx - the number is on the back of the router, along with the code which you will need later - you should also have got a card with this on.

Select the network and click connect - it will ask you for the code. Type the code in and it should automagically connect you to the network.
