Dimmable Spotlights...

I'm currently having my lounge and bedroom redecorated, including the ceiling(s) plastered.

I was looking at maybe putting spotlights in - i quite like the idea of a dimmer switch however.

Are there any spotlights available that are compatible with dimmer switches?

Most spotlights can be used with dimmer switches as long as you don't fit non-dimmable low energy lamps in them.

the packaging will tell you if they can be dimmed or not
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

    It's slightly complicated.

Spot lights can be either 240V or low voltage.

Ordinary 240V spot lights can be dimmed.

Low voltage spot lights are connected to a transformer to to convert mains power to low voltage. These can be dimmed, but the important part is the transformer and the dimmer switch. These two have to be compatible.

If you install low voltage spot lights, you need to read up on the different types of transformers/dimmers and make sure you choose compatible equipment.

I can't tell you much more except that I have got spot lights which dim. They were in the house when we moved in.

Dimmed lights give out very little light but use almost as much lecky as full brightness light, so are very inefficient. Much better to have banks of lights on different switches and just turn on what you need.
