Rome in August?

can you tell me if I'm mad to consider a weekend in Rome in August.
The prices i've got are really appealing to me and I'm torn between 3 hotels in all. However after looking into it a bit more, the weather seems pretty stiffeling in August. Given we'll be walking about/siteseeing and not with our feet dangling in a pool or in the sea, is this mad idea?
