HGV Medical rip'off (merged threads)

  • What you have to consider, though, is how much you would pay a solicitor or a plumber (£70 just for coming out!)? Isn't your licence worth it considering the money you can make by having one?
Or are doctors of less value than solictors or plumbers or 'celebrity' twonks?
In this context - rip-off? No.

If it can be done properly for £45, then £130 does sound like a rip-off.

  • Personally i inform my patients of cheaper venues if they so desire , for instance http://www.hgv-medicals.co.uk/ £40. Unfortunately its not worth the time and hassle to charge less and I'd prefer not to have to do them in the first place. I usually have to do them out of clinic hours and personally I prefer to go home rather than stay back for 30-60 mins faffing about with them. Personally i charge £100, £60 after tax.
Dedicated clinics are able to charge less as they are better set up,more experienced in doing them AND they'll probably do a better job
  • truckers are seen as the scum of the earth by other motorists, yet they don't realise everything they own, eat and wear has been transported by a LGV or HGV, and we need to unite to help one another

Well said there young lady! I've just made my appointment with the company you linked, as my own doctor couldn't fit me in within three weeks and I will have emigrated by then. I'll post again when I've had my medical...

Yes same here, local doctor charges £86, but one in Slough will do it for £30. This is because most GP's are self-employed, and run their doctors practice as a private business, so in effect they can charge what they like for private work such as the HGV medical. Really something should be done about this to regulate charges, so that they are both realistic, universal and fair!

where abouts in slough is this doctor as my husband needs to get his medical done asap
  • Hi where abouts in slough is this doctor as my husband needs his HGV medical done.
  • It's worth looking for GP's in your area who do divers/seafarers medicals. They usually do HGV ones too, and can be cheaper :)
Only dead fish go with the flow...
  • I have and will continue to use these doctors.I have to have a medical every year and they save me £100 pound every year. They were quick and proffesional every time .I have to travel 14 miles but it is still worth it.
