I have just reached the age of 55 (yes I know, I look too young) and have been told by the DVLA that I need to have a medical to maintain my HGV licence.
I booked an appointment at my local GP's surgery and was quoted £148!!!
Did a bit of research on line and found a local doctor who will do the medical and the paperwork for £30.
In his pocket £30 - in my pocket £118. That's what I call moneysaving!0 -
Yes same here, local doctor charges £86, but one in Slough will do it for £30. This is because most GP's are self-employed, and run their doctors practice as a private business, so in effect they can charge what they like for private work such as the HGV medical. Really something should be done about this to regulate charges, so that they are both realistic, universal and fair!0

Errmmm...shouldn't that read: "In his pocket £30 - out of my pocket £30"? You don't actually get £118 in yours, you just avoid paying it out.

Good luck with the medical btw.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Yes, you are absolutely right. I should have said still in my pocket £115.
PS - Have you read Eats Shoots and Leaves?

Yes, he says, frantically scanning his previous post for punctuation errors. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Does anyone know of a'cut-price' HGV medical test in the N/West?
Once 45 is reached a medical is req. and doctors vary in cost. £65 seems the norm here but I have seen £30 advertised in the Midlands.

Hope it helps, as truckers are seen as the scum of the earth by other motorists, yet they don't realise everything they own, eat and wear has been transported by a LGV or HGV, and we need to unite to help one another
