Question for the Scottish Power Company Rep

Hi Leblanc
Thank you for getting back to me and I understand why you have taken the action you have.
I understand your comments regarding the confusion for customers who are looking to transfer supplier. The best advise I can give in relation to this is to know yourself how much gas and electricity you are using over a 12-month period in kWh. If you record meter readings yourself then great, look at two meter readings recorded almost exactly 12-months apart. If you do not record meter readings, look at previous bills and obtain two accurate readings again almost 12-months apart.
Once you have this figure, then obtain the best unit rates being offered by a given supplier. This may be in the form of all kWh being charged at a specific rate along with a set daily standing charge. Alternatively you may be offered a tariff with no standing charge and with a Primary and Secondary rate. If you are provided with all the prices, taking the time to do some calculations yourself will certainly help you understand the pros and cons of changing to a given supplier. I am providing this information for other forum users as well as this will help consumers understand what they should be paying if they follow this proceedure.
With prices going up and down the way it does in this industry, it can make it difficult for consumers to know if they should choose a discounted but uncapped tariff now or to change onto a capped tariff and secure there payments for a given period of time. Each persons circumstances are different and a tariff that suits one may not suit another.
In regards to the empolyees making errors - the telephone calls are recorded and one error like yours may highlight a training issue with one individual, if this was to happen more than once then further action would be taken as we do not want incorrect information being given to a potential customer. The OLE Reward tariff that you were being offered, does provide you with excellent unit rates and there would be no need to alter any figures to highlight that you were getting a good deal. It is unfortunate that these errors were made so early on as this tariff is for customer's who wish to manage their accounts online and you would have very little reason to contact us once the account was up and running.
Yogibear - this is common now within the industry and is trying to encourage customers to remain with a given supplier for at least 12 months. If you are unhappy with the prices being offered to you and this is our best tariff for you, you have the option of changing supplier without being charged any cancellation fees. You will find that if you opt for a standard tariff you may not have a cancellation charge as part of the terms and conditions. Howver, if you chose to go onto a discounted tariff (cheaper) or capped tariff (secure) then you will be encouraged to remain on this tariff for the full length of the contract. You have a choice when it comes to the best tariff for you.

Very good but in reality a motto is all very well and does not disguise the truth - the truth being how badly Scottish Power treat their loyal customers.

Might take that back, will let you know in a few days.
Just had someone call me from SP - not a thick one like most of them and actually was quite understanding of what I told him.
There is hope yet.0 -
