I want to buy a new laptop and don't want a refurbished one. Just need some help or suggestions. Can go upto £400, and I would like Intel Pentium Dual Core, it must have a webcam and built in microphone. I've noticed that some of these laptops don't have a built in microphone! I would use the laptop for general surfing, email, downloading music. Looked at Compaq Intel Pentium at Comet for £399 but don't know much about these? Any suggestions?

For general purpose Sony is best, Compaq or Toshiba laptops are good . I personally won't suggest Acer, Asus, samsung.
To go and have a look at Comet or PC world is good but if you get it online you will find same laptop with a good cost difference.
ebuyer.com, laptopsdirect.co.uk are good website.
If you decide to get it from comet or PC world, have a look at cashback website, Promo-code website, there are many promotional codes always available for PC world, comet etc. where you can save 3- 10% on the given cost.Sudeep -

Hi thanks for your help. Did have a Samsung R530 which broke down after 31 days and very disappointed with customer service got a refund from Amazon. Saw a laptop with Comet Compaq cq61-435, intel pentium, 3gb, 2.1ghz, webcam and built in microphone, get it with 6% promotional code at £375? Do you think a Compaq is a good sound laptop?0

I've heard nothing but horror stories from people with a Sony. They are always complaining that the machine they thought was a bargain was unsupported after 6 months!!
I've nothing against Sony - our TV is great. I whouldn't, however, buy a laptop from them.
If you'd like to up your spec, you could try the outlet sites. HERE is the Dell outlet laptop page. I searched and found what looks to be a good machine (£391 inc vat) HEREIn the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0
