How can anyone possibly answer that?
Where are you going to find better rates than 3.85% and 4.4%?
What are the penalties? have you found out?

I think vigman should try to do just a little work himself.

I blame the Internet for the way students find information! :p

I wonder what the students economics exam paper submissions are like these days with all those nutter tin foil hatter web sites around icon7.gif

index linked is 1% interest and you might get lucky with bonus interest on top. Its up to you if you want guaranteed 3.85 or not instead

OK, OK normal service is resumed :D. I think spending ages in a hospital casualty department yesterday addled my brain.

My initial query was based on the apparent high NS&I rate in the index linked account versus my current fixed rate offerings and chopping them in with penalties........

    Thanks all

    Vigman

I actually have to run 'turn it in' for students work at a uni which is fine, but not if they have bought a unique answer for 300 quid

Hang on to that work "apparent". Your fixed rate account is paying that rate. An NS&I account will be paying a rate based upon some future event.
This site has made some real errors in the way they have headlined this account. It may be brilliant but we wont know that until the end of 3 or 5 years.

Considering this thread, I did wonder why the headline is still so prominent on this (normally really excellent) site?

I've got to put on my rate tart costume soon as my wife's ISA with Lloyds and mine with Coventry are coming to fruition in June....doesn't time fly? ;)

However with a daughter going to Uni next September there won't be many spare 5,100s around for the next three years anyway:eek:

If you can, keep an "eye" on the Uni expenses, will get a better return relative to fiddling with the savings account numbers ;)

It's not just this thread that has commented on this. The article itself is not too bad but the headlines are appalling. If NS&I used it in their advertising, they would be told to withdraw it.
