Hi - Last week I bought some reduced slices of beef which I froze. I was defrosting them tonight to make sandwiches for tomorrow's lunch, and opened the packet so they'd desfrost quicker.
I've just been in the kitchen and there's a bluebottle! I've killed it of course (after covering the meat back up) but should I throw the top slice of beef away?
I hate throwing food away but have to assume the fly has been on it (no details please, I know what they do and the thought is making me queasy)
Would I get ill if it has been on it? Would you throw the slice away?
Also...any ideas where the big fly suddenly came from, given that I haven;t opened a door or window all day?

Hi I would be quite inclined to throw it away.
The fly has probably been there all day you`ve just not noticed it.0 -
Hi skintchick,
I know it goes against the grain, but if in doubt I'd chuck it.
A couple of years ago a similar thing happened to me when I was cooling a base for shepherds pie for the freezer....and when I defrosted it, it was covered in little frozen, you know whats! :eek: It was a long time before I could eat shepherds pie without thinking about them.
I wouldn't risk it.

Hi, I have just asked the OH who used to be a " Properly" Trained Chef and he said that you could just wipe the beef slice off with a damp piece of Kitchen towel. That should be ok. when you see what some cooks do with food he said you would be horrified. so you should be ok and also perhaps the blowfly just happend to be passing by when you came into the Kitchen. And if you hadn't come in at that moment and the fly went away you would never know.20p savers club

Cos next door's cats would eat it first and they might be ill and then I'd feel guilty.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
