I bought some small Japanese Acer plants from Netto last week. Each one is just under 1ft high.
But i noticed some of them have started to wilt and leaves curl up. I planted one outside yesterday in a rich compost in the soil in a reasomable sunny place, today is all wilted. The packet says they like full sun locations. I only give them a enough water to wet the soil after planting.

any clues whats wrong with them?

Don't worry. Acers tend to fake death when they've been moved, transplanted or kept thirsty.

We had a similar topic recently that might help to reassure you.

Thanks, i did read on that thread that acers dont like lime. Argh i used some of the asda compost in the whole when it was planted in the soil, and just realised that Asda compost has lime added to it! do i need to dig it out and redo it with some non-lime compost?

Also on gardenaction website it says acers dont like too much water, but you guys say keep it watered well, hence i am confused.
The plant instructions say it likes a full sun spot - is that okay.

We're keeping ours in a shady spot and they're doing better that when they were in sun.

Yea that thread was my poor tree lol. Still looks bad. Yea they do like lots of water.TBH I would say part sun, part shade and keep the pot damp.Esp and more so if its windy as that dries it out very quickly and the moisture goes from the leaves and it ends up burnt and looking sorry like mine! lol.

Ours is in it's 2nd year, and it's leaves got quite scorched last year, when it sat in full sun.
We moved it next to the garage wall in front of water barrel (helps hiding it) and it did better there, still gets some sun but not all day, and protected from the wind.
    And yes, lots of water!
Didn't know it was an acid lover and put in ordinary compost, hasn't killed it. Also used multi-purpose fertiliser (low doses as never quite sure), again no obivous harm done, but will switch to ericaceous stuff in the future.

Our little Acer has faked death a few times but seems much happier in partial shade with lots to drink...Is it me or do we treat our plants like Diva's, mine get away with much more than my 3 year old DD and her demands lol!!

Thanks for replies. Sounds like i may need to replant my acer.
But i had another little acer still in its original pot and i left that in the shade for most of the day and it also wilted.
