virgin email on orange iphone

OK this is driving me mad. Ive searched the net and tried different things ive found but none work.

I have an iphone on orange and want to use my virgin.net email account on the iphone. I can receive emails fine but I cannot send them at all.

Does anyone know what settings I need in order to send my virgin.net emails using my orange iphone please.

set the SMTP server to smtp.virginmedia.com and put your virginmedia username and password in the appropriate fields

I had this problem too with my HTC. When you are on virgins network (eg if you are on wi-fi at home) the SMTP server will work without entering the password in the account settings.

If you are on a different internet connection (eg on Orange mobile) you need to enter the password in the account settings for the SMTP server.

So, make sure you have your settings configures so that

1) Login is required
2) Security Type = SSL
3) Enter username/password (same as for the POP3/IMAP server)
