Question about a Camera! To Sell to Help Bills or Not?

Hi peeps. Please note I am NOT trying to sell something here, via this board! But I do need some help re: if I sell it via EBAY or Amazon to make a dent in my debts.

I am desperately hoping someone who knows about photography & cameras will read this and offer up some guidance advice.

I have a brand new, never used, Canon EOS 300X camera. The manual says it is also a "Rebel T2" whatever that means!

This camera also comes with a Canon strap and a Lowepro camera bag. Also an 85mm zoom lense.

Now this Canon camera was an insurance replacement for a Pentax I had stolen.

I don't think I am ever going to use this camera and I am thinking of selling it.

I realise we are now in the digital age and I am not sure if many people are interested now in 35mm film cameras.

Is there anyone out there who can offer up any advice as to a guidance price I should expect if I try and sell this on Amazon or EBAY or even privately via my local city forum's classifieds?

If it was a fair price it could really help me pay off a chunk of one of my VISA cards so I don't want to sell myself short, so to speak.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I can't help with pricing, but have you thought about looking on Ebay/Amazon to see if anyone else is seling the same thing and how much for?

Or, if you have a local camera shop, take it in for a valuation.

Good luck - if you don't use it, you may as well go for cold hard cash!

Personally I would try local free ads 1st.

I sell on both Ebay & Amazon, this time of year things are pretty quite so you might not get the best price for it, and also you have sellers fees etc to consider.
You can't have everything....where would you put it?

Hi Minnie thanks for teh response hon.

Yes I have looked on EBAY/Amazon but a lot of them are selling as body of camera only or (as per Amazon) the lense is 135mm and mine is 90mm. But I will investigate some more shortly.

I have alread rung a camera shop and they were not interested as it is SLR - humph!!

  • Can’t help with pricing but it might be worth advertising at your local college, people who are starting armature photography classes in September time will want good quality film cameras :)

What sort of camera shop is not interested in a SLR?!!!

Have you had a look on the Jessops website? They have second hand cameras listed as well as new ones.

Hi! It was my local Jessops who were not interested!

However saying that, I may be thinking of when I spoke to them about my Pentax...but I can't be sure (I've been drunk & asleep since then...! ;) ) so I *will* try again. Thanks for the suggestion of the website.

  • What's with this modern trend of insurance companies replacing goods instead of just giving you the money? Money is sometimes so much more useful, and it also saves them the trouble (and presumably expense) of having to buy the stuff. Do they think that if they give out money, people will claim for things they didn't own in the first place or something?

That surprises me. Is it an unusually small branch?
If you live near a college, I'd take Wonder_Girl's advice and try advertising there to get the best price. Most major photography courses will involve both digital and film photography. Film cameras aren't really making a lot of money on eBay now, as you've probably noticed (which is good for me, because I'm planning to replace my broken Nikon soon).

cant help with pricing but if you list the camera on ebay list the lense seperate, reason is the lense with fit a Cannon eos 300 D or 350 D (digital SLR) and digital lenses cost a small fortune. thsi is probably why you will only see bodys on ebay and lenses seperate.

as for the rebel t2 this is the american model name same camera different model name.

sorry i cant help on the price
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

  • Looking ahead........... you'll be pushed to get £30-£40 tops for the camera + lens.
eBay is as good as anywhere, you'll get a much bigger market than anywhere else......fact is there's no market for lower end slr cameras now.

if i had known then what i know now
