Plant growing out neighbours wall

Hi All,
Im looking for a bit of advice, there is large plant (almost like a tree) growing directly out off the middle of a wall of a neighbours property (an outhouse).
The problem is the neighbours property forms the entire left wall of my back garden.
When i bought the house a couple of years ago i spoke to them about it and they claimed they were going to get it seen too but nothing happened.
As a result and as the plant was growing over my back garden i cut it back.
This inst a problem with them, but i was wondering, as it seems to have some very big and deep roots to the point that it actually looks like it goes right into the wall and has visible structural movement, if i would be held responsible for it in any way, not due to cutting it back but because its in my back garden, albeit coming out their wall.
The outhouse is in quite a rundown state, and i suspect they just hope it will fall down one day, naturally i don't want to be seen to be responsible for any of that.
Any advice? Im basically looking to know if they are responsible for it as it is their property?

Its their plant/tree, so their responsibility. However, you have the right to prune it back to the boundary line
You may want to drill some holes in the branch/stump after cutting it, and pour something in it to kill it off.0 -
Probably a buddleia. They can grow anywhere. Cutting it right back to the ground/wall won't kill it so you'll have to poison it.
It does attract butterflies when in flower though.

Yeah, thats the one, i just wanted to make sure that as it was growing out of their wall it was their responsibility and not mine because my garden technically right next to it.0 -
as above.
you can cut it all day long, inside your property.
and i would certainly put some poison into it, too.Get some gorm.0 -
First of all I thought you were saying your house was joined to the building it came out of (bigger issue), but maybe not.
I'm not sure you're allowed to poison your neighbour's plants though, so be careful there.0 -
When a buddleia is growing out of the pointing between bricks in a wall, it's not a plant it's a weed. (IMO)"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Drill some holes and put in some Deep Root Killer. It is crystals and very effective. It killed a mound of 15 bay tree roots in my garden.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

no youre not. but the chances of getting caught is about the same as new labour getting the national deficit back to zero.Get some gorm.0
