vauxhall dealerships.
I have found out over the past couple of weeks that the main dealer where i bought my car from charges £35 an hour for labour, which i presume is normal for a main dealer.
Can anyone tell me why when a service is carried out the hourly charge is
£70 an hour:eek:. I have been told this today by a body shop boss there.
Needless to say i wont be taking it to the main dealer for its service this month.

How do you know this?
Are you sure it isnt because servicing is a fixed cost or has more than one person working on it at a time?
Tbh the £70 an hour seems more like of a main dealer than £35 an hour.0 -
As i said in my OP, a body shop boss told me this today when i went to enquire
about getting my car fixed after a tractor scraped me and i mentioned that the service was due and when he told me how much the service cost and then he said the charge for servicing was £70 an hour.
How long would a service actually take in labour, anyone know.
1st service down there was £169 or £179.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

My local (back street) garage is £38 an hour.0

Is the bodywork actually part of the dealership then or just someone who does their bodywork for them or subleases the premises?
It may also be the bodyshop specialists arent fully trained mechanics or such.
Frankly I wouldnt trust a dealership to do a bodywork repair anyway. There £8 an hour technicians would bodge it.0 -
No the bodywork shop is actually part of the dealership.
If they are trained technicians surely they shouldnt bodge it.
Its not a bodywork repair really, its a respray job, luckily the tractor didnt make any dents.................make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

£35 per hour is a good rate for a workshop at a main dealer. £70 sounds the going rate. Not sure why it's causing concern as most servicing at Vauxhall dealers is fixed price menu servicing where the price includes parts, labour and VAT.The man without a signature.0

About 5-6 years ago I had a Golf as a company car. The local VW dealer in Warrington had a labour rate of over £90 per hour then.0

Personally I wouldn't go to a main dealer for paintwork. A decent, recommended independent is likely to do a better job. I think the competition from local independents is one of the things that keeps main dealer body shop rates lower than their mechanical rates partly because independent body repairs do not impact on 'service history'..0 -
