I would very strongly advise you to backup all the info first. Backup never hurt anyone. You do get sorely hurt though if you lose everthing. At most, using compression, you should get 10 DVDs burnt, which is not that much, then wipe out everything and partition using Microsoft's partition utility. Also Gmail I reckon no longer needs invites now.

Correct, I've killed an install using PartitionMagic before, nearly lost some VERY important documents.

The 40 is partitioned to 2x20 - neither recognised
160 was and still is master at this stage, unpartitioned, however I intend to make this storage later with the 40 as the master.

i would have thought that PM should recognise the 40 as 2x20 with the file system, the fact that it is displaying as 40GB other seems to indicate it doesn't recognise this.

have you tried booting into DOS and using FDISK to see what that reports?

It doesn't recognise it all within explorer, only in device manager.
Can't tinker at mo, as wife on it and gets upset when I kick her off.

I've swapped the drives over and everything was fine - there is the 40gig drive partitioned 50/50, booted properly and the 160gig listed as a local disk.

No idea why won't reverse scenario.
