Why is my house mentioned on my neighbours' sale details?

    My husband phones the EA and asked why it mentioned about the rooms coming over the entry. EA said it was merely his duty as a professional EA to point out the flying freehold; that if he didn't mention it, some future buyer may find out further along the line, and pull out of the sale, thereby breaking a chain and costing people money. My husband asked if there was any sort of dispute going on, the EA exclaimed ' Good gracious No! In fact they are on excellent terms with the neighbours, in fact I believe they look after each others' gardens!'

    So it seems there is no problem there then.

  • OP- Be very careful about letting people use your land (this applied to anyone) as there are clauses in the Adverse Possession laws that state a new buyer can continue where the old occupier left off, so in essence, the new neighbours can use that 2 years themself leaving them only 8 years to use your land before they try and take it.
  • Thanks, Missk, we are not going to let the new neighbours use the land.

    It seems as though our neighbourly gesture could backfire on us in the future, so we'll have to be un-neighbourly with the new people. I'm afraid.
