Is it possible to put your house down on a list with the local housing executive? In other words can you make it available to them to rent out to tenants? If any1 has any experience of this or knows if it is possible, can they let me know? Many thanks:)

You could just advertise your house to let in a local paper and add "NIHE welcome".

Call your local authority, when I worked for ours we used to have a scheme (private sector leasing) where we placed the homeless in temp housing while waiting for perm social housing.
We generally took the properties on for 2 years at a time, the rent paid to the LL wasn't as high as they would have got on the open market but the LA were responsible for ensuring the property was handed back in the same condition & the rent was paid regardless of whether there were tenants in it.

The NIHE have capped limits on the amount of rent they will pay depending on area. See the following http://www.nihe.gov.uk/index/yh-home/renting_privately/local_housing_allowance-2.htm

One thing to watch to get the maximum rent (and yes these are lower than you would get through a private rent) is to rent the property furnished, which can be an added headache. Rates will also be covered.

The following guide by NIHE for private landlords will help but don't forget as you will be dealing with a public body they love "health & safety" so may expect you to do more than would otherwise be acceptable going private. http://www.nihe.gov.uk/index/yh-home/renting_privately/advice_for_landlords-2.htm

Good luck I hope all works out well for you.

I rented a house out a few years ago via the nihe. You can let them know that you have a house available.
Although you only get about £340 as it is a set amount capped. The difference if any should be paid by the person renting. I was lucky enough as I had a perfect tennent for 5 years.
Cons are that the inland revenue will be looking tax every year. I thought I was getting away with it until 3 years in and they wanted all my tax returns.
Lesson I have learned is that be honest and go to the taxman and declare it. Chances are that the tax won't be too much if any.
Just be careful who you let it out to. Don't just jump in with the first person. It could end up a nightmare.

Mmmmm now when i was left needing to sell my home as it was no longer suitable, the HE were trying to get me 2 houses together....or the other option was for them to build! (which would take 5 years)

I bought my own, BUT quite a senior figure in the NIHE said they had no stock, and the house i had bought and converted for my own families needs would be ideal for a disabled family (which at the time we were...and on some occosions we still are) They had told me that it would be the kind of house that they would like to have in their stock for Emergencies. I was also told if i wanted to sell it that maybe I should offer it to them first!!!!!

House has full disabled facilities, 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a wetroom 2 sitting rooms and quite a large garden!!

I think it depends on the house in question, how much its needed, and sometimes there are extra allowances for renting the property....ie they will pay £340 pm....but if its really needed they will pay more depending on the tennants circumstances!!

Just wondering what Housing executive look for from you in terms of documents if you want to make it available to rent. Do they look to see deeds of house etc.? Does the mortgage have to be all paid off or do they look at ltv, amount of equity in the house?
