Wheelchair Syndrome

Does anyone else have this, as soon as I get into one to be pushed round the shops, I turn from a placid, laid back kind of person into a raging ogre, I can't believe how I behave yet I still do it.:rotfl:
Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.

ha ha - I suffer from scooter rage. I just love being at crotch height and getting bashed in the face with bags etc. However I do enjoy "taking out" some stores where there is no space for a wheelchair or scooter!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

not a criticism, just a thought............
one og those people who hit you in the face with a bag might be me............i'm registered blind, and as you are low down i might not see you!

just because a disability isnt obvious doesnt mean its not there.
i remember shopping with a friend in morrisons..................i walked across the veg ailse to pick something up, straight into the path of a mobility scooter. after listening to the tirade of abuse, i told them i was registered blind and apologised (why i apologised, i dont know!)
the scooters occupant then said......'well you can see well enough to go shopping!@
dont blind people eat then? lol

I'm the same, I'm on crutches permamtely, but there are times when I have to hire a mobility scooter, I'm sure horns grow out of my head!! Not all people, just a minority, but you get treated as 2nd class citizens, when I was in a shop once in Torquay - I'd hired a scooter easier to get around, some woman come up to me and said people like you shouldn't be allowed to shop at normal times ....... I was gobsmacked.

Thou I must confess my best rant, can't believe it was nearly 8yrs ago, I'd only been on crutches 2 months, I was 8 1/2mths pregnant, walking round a market, on a field, bit up and down, was with my parents, dad had got the dog. I was slowly catching up, so he and mum would wait at the end of the stall at the side with the dog (out of everybodys way), and then I'd catch up, for a change I hadn't stopped to look at the stall, was looking towards dad and the dog, this woman went past, got 1 walking stick, for no reason at all, she walked past stopped and hit the dog with her walking stick, then carried on...... dad was gob smacked, so was mum, me

-the hormones kicked in........ I went up to her politely, and said excuse, but you just hit my dog with ur walking stick when he was sat perfectly and hadn't moved, by your actions i would say it was deliberate.... she shouted "I'm on a walking stick", so I raised my voice...... and said "congratulations love, do you want a medal, and by the way I'm on 2 crutches, 2 weeks till I'm due to give birth and I don't go around hitting dogs".

Of course everyone around stopped to listen and everyone clapped and got a few well dones"....

She apologised, then went and apologised to dad.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

OK, hands up, I get scooter rage as well :(

In the last month I've been sworn at, had a stone thrown at me, and had 3 people walk into me (when I've been stationary I hasten to add). My current plan is to get a bigger scooter so that I stand half a chance of catching the blighter who threw the stone at me...

i use a scooter all the time outdoors and i have 4 things that REALLY get me mad, does anyone agree?
1, people texting whilst walking and not looking where they are going, while you weave allover the place trying to avoid them.
2, people who walk backwards, sounds silly but so many people do it, especially in shops.
3, why do people queue to use the automatic door when there are two perfectly good doors either side that can be used by able bodied people (not those with pushchairs of course)
4, and finally, those people who park across dropped kerbs, those that are brave will go down the kerb with a huge bang of the back wheels and your stomach jumps into your throat or you travel another 5 mile (ok 500 yards then) down the road to find the next dropped kerb.

Then people wonder why we sprout horns when we are let loose. i know some people who drive scooters are very inconsiderate and there is no excuse for that, but i think in general we get the raw deal

I got my legs bumped a while back by some old biddy in a scooter, she reversed into me. So she pulled forward and the stupid biddy reversed back into my legs. I told her if she couldn't drive the thing then perhaps she shouldn't be using one!

So it's not just disabled people who can have rants!

When I had to take my middle son around the supermarket the day after he was released from hospital a few months back, we didn't go wheelchair rage, we went wheelchair silly!

I was being careful to remain safe but when my back was turned and youngest got on the handles, the sillyness really took over!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
