Cancelling with BT

I had my home phone and broadband with BT, and have moved this all to Virgin.
I phoned up and cancelled with BT on the 1st of May (cancelling my phone and broadband), i asked if this was everything cancelled and was told yes and that i would get a final bill latter in the month.
My Electronic bill arrived today and I noticed i was getting billed in advance for 3 months 'IT Home Call'. So phoned them up after being transferred to about 4 differnt departments i eventually have this serviced cancelled. However its being canclled 14 days from today and not 14 days from the 1st of May when it should have been.
Not really happy about being charged for 14 days of this service, and trying to register a complaint over the telephone is not an easy task. Where is the best place to register a complaint with BT.
Also my account is in credit, does anyone know how BT give you this money back, i want to cancel my DD with them (so they dont take any more money from me) but am worried if they try to give me this money back by DD it will reject.
Anyone able to advice me?
Many thanks

Having personally just escaped from BT after 31 years as a loyal customer I can confidently advise you that BT will send you a cheque through the post if you are due a refund. I cancelled my DD as soon as I received my final bill of £70+ most of which was for early termination of a rolling 12 month contract.
Eventually after 3 phone calls and a cast iron legal argument I got this bill replaced with a new final bill of £8.10p credit which arrived as a cheque about a week later. I almost framed it instead of putting into the bank!...lol
If the details of my BT (and similar with Tesco Internet) stories interest you just search my posts via my profile.
Hope this helps.....and good luck with your case against BT.Never trust a financial institution.

Did you actually phone up on the 1st of May to cancel? If so then you would be charged 14 days as its the cancellation period required by BT, its been in their T&Cs for years.Once we have provided the service, you may tell us to stop providing it at any time by giving us 14 days' written notice, either by email to any email address we may have given you or by letter to the address on your last BT bill or any other address we have given you, for that purpose. We can stop providing the service by giving you 28 days' written notice. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Yes i phoned up on the 1st to cancel, and was told that everything was cancelled wef 15th of May. But the IT Home call was not cancelled so when i phoned up on the 19th i was told the would cancel wef 19th of May - but again it would take 14 days to cancel - so most annoyed.0 -
