being charged for a place i dont live

hi i'm in need of some advice, i moved from my old property in january this year. i informed the gas supplier (scottish power) a month in advance that we was moving, since then we have still recieving the bills for the old property. we have been intouch with scottish power on numerous occasions who have appologised but i wake up this morning to find it has been passed on to a debt recovery agent. help! i have no idea what to do. i have sent e-mails had letters and been on the phone to them for hours:mad:

Sorry to hear about your situation. If you called one month prior to moving out of your address you would have been asked to call back closer to the time you moved out to provide the closing meter readings and to also update your new address so that your final statements would be sent to you. If this was not advised to you at this time then I do apologise.

Did you receive a final statement and did you pay this balance in full?

I am unsure why you would be on the phone to us for hours as this is an issue that can be rectified straight away. We will be able to confirm to you the following without delay:

1. What date your account has been closed down to (if closed at all).
2. What the current outstanding balance on the account is.
3. What action needs to be taken to rectify the situation.

I would contact us as soon as you can on 0845 2700 700 (Open 8am - 7pm Mon - Fri and 8.30am - 1pm Sat) and we will sort this for you.
