I'm planning a trip to scotland (edinburgh) at the next bank holiday weekend but have no idea where to stay! any suggestions?
I'm looking for a reasonably priced (budget is approx £400-500) self-catering cottage/lodge or bed and breakfast to accomodate a family.
thanks.

you may get more replies posting in the scotland board .......here
how long are you staying for ?
When is the next bank holiday ?
have you tried the visit scotland website ? it has a section on accomodation.
on the scotland board there is also a thread entitled "things to see and do in Edinburgh" which may be useful."The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

If you mean the upcoming August bank holiday (25th-28th) you haven't a chance of finding budget accomodation in Edinburgh. It's the peak weekend of the Edinburgh Festival and everything will have been booked up for months. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Try The Knight Residence, they are the most fablulous apartments within walking distance from Princess Street, parking is also included within the rate. This place is so friendly, the web address is https://www.theknightresidence.co.uk, or just give them a call!0

Try Fountain Court apartments - excellent location with private secure parking. Spacious and very well equiped, fridge, washing machine, microwave etc.0

Thanks albalad for pointing me in the right direction! Managed to get some very useful info from that thread.
I tried both The Knight Residence and Fountain Court apartments plus many others through visitscotland.com but all are either fully booked or prices are sky high.
Will make a few calls to try my luck due to any last minute cancellations!
Thanks to all for help.0 -
you might have more luck looking outwith city....dunfermline or stirling are not that far away either by train, car or bus. there have been more services put on for the festival.x x x0

While it may not find you a cottage - I used http://www.alpharooms.com/ as it had some exceptional prices at plenty of UK city destinations.
I got a 4 star hotel for the weekend for £110 with full scottish breakfast and all taxes etc included. Very impressed and lots of deals, so worth a look, even for those not going to Edinburgh - and for those who aren't keen on Travelodge! :money:'Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery'0 -
The Haven site "Seton Sands" is 10 miles away may have availability in a mobile home.0
