I also use Tesco Value tablets - crush 2 in each loaf - after reading about it n this site. This and using the wholemeal setting for all bread has definately improved my bread.0

I don't make wholemeal bread, but do use some wholemeal flour in it. I find home-made wholemeal bread tends to be quite heavy, so what I do is use 80g of wholemeal flour and 420g white. I'm going to up the wholemeal though so that I'm eventually going to be 20% wholemeal. I have to do it gradually otherwise my DS might not eat it! It's taken me a while to convert him to homemade bread from the bought white. He does actually prefer my bread now though. (should think so too

Have been making hubby granary bread which he loves but hasn't been rising very well. It says add a vitamin c tablet to the mix to help the rise, could I use effervescent ones or would I have dough spilling out the breadmaker?0

I think they are 1000 mg tabs. I used to sometimes use a 60 mg tab when hand baking, when I was using yeast I was doubtful about. I would use a teeny bit of one of your big ones in the water, not more than 1/10 of a tab0

Hi 2boysmum,
I have seen posts where Old Stylers have said that they use effervescent vitamin C tablets but I just use ordinary vitamin C tablets crushed with a spoon.
There's an earlier thread on using Vitamin C in the breadmaker:
Vitamin C and Bread
I'll add your post to it later to keep the replies together.

Hi onetomany,
I add 100mg of vit c to make a 2lb loaf. Mine is in 200g tablet form so I just crush half a tablet and add it to the flour.
There's an earlier thread on using vitamin c in the breadmaker that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.
