Free £50 from Santander?

Hey Guys,
I'm hoping this deal isn't too good to be true. Santander have recently opened a student branch and are advertising a free £50 cash gift once the account has been open for a month.
The only term i've seen is that you must switch your existing bank account using the Account Transfer Process.
I informed HSBC that I was considering leaving banks and they were disappointed that after being a customer of 9 years I wanted to close. They were aware of the offer and said they can't match it.
Has any one else seen this or been successful of this offer?

well they (or A&L) have offered £100 for openning some particular current accounts before - that's why i have an A&L account and they did pay up without any problems. don't know about the student account specifically though.:happyhear0

£50 in the short term is a decent amount, however even though I have savings with the bank in question, I would never advise anyone to leave HSBC. You hear about other banks and how people tell others how never to open an account with them. I have never in my experience though and neither have my any members of my family (personal or business banking) ever encountered problems with HSBC.
In the long term, what's £50 if the new bank cannot match the quality of services that you have been used to with your previous bank.0 -
I'm only 16 but I've needed a bank for my paper round monies. I've been with Lloyds TSB and am currently with HSBC: I'd never change now, they're fantastic!"We are the change that we seek."0
