I have about 5 keys not working at all since I spilt a small amount of tea on the keyboard. Anything I can do or is it a job for the professionals...if so can someone give me a rough idea of cost please. Thanks.

If you spill any liquid on your laptop, switch it off and remove the battery and the power lead immediately. Then put the laptop on a towel with the keyboard facing down. Then you should remove the keyboard and look if some liquid went further inside.
Then you should try to clean the keyboard as much as possible. You could even rinse it with distilled water if you let it dry for a couple of days.
But as it looks, it might be a job for a professional.0 -
Laptop keyboard, not much to clean, very small, fixed - not much dismantling available as they tend to be sealed at each key point. Carefully relieve keyboard from laptop, flip over and dismount ribbon cable from socket/retainer -it is locked in with a small clip. Wash down with IPA alcohol, (alcohol is a rapid drying and leaves no residue), dry and reassemble.
Desktop keyboards can easily be dismantled and cleaned.
Laptop keyboard from ebay £5-£40 I think.0 -
Chances are you'll need another keyboard. You can get them cheap off Ebay and its not a hard job to swap them over. A shop charging to do the job should only charge their minimum rate as its a 5-10 minute job.0

One tip I would suggest is when you are drying it out, put it in the airing cupboard for a few hours to really dry it out.0
