when he disconnected the shocks he would of used a balljoint spillter to remove the joint from the hub well i hope he used a splitter! i'd say he's creating work for himself, dont use him and ask around for a decent mechanic.
Hi , i couldnt agree with you more !!!
I reckon that if this mechanic had of noticed the ball joints when he was doing the shocks then he would have mentioned it then......i mean the shocks were only done a week or so ago......i wouldnt think the ball joints would have been fine then and then WENT within such a short space of time !!
It just pee's me off , we leave the car in for one thing and go back to a list of faults !!!
The car only passed its psv test a month ago !

ps . the car WONT be going back to this rip off merchant lol0 -

Hi Mikey.
Trust me , im NO mechanic but i would say without a doubt that the ball joints were fine when the shocks were done and i would also go as far as saying that the ball joints are NO where near as knackered as he is trying to tell us.....the problem here is my husband is taking his word for gospel because the car is a taxi and so he knows he is responsible for the safety of his passengers.....
Im guessing this mechanic is playing on our inexperience !
The bottom line of the matter is we (I) will not be going back near him for any repairs!!! I will also be telling everyone i know to avoid him too lol

Success.
An 8ft length of 4 x 2 wedged under the car and on top on the lower arm and it just popped out.
Driveshaft came out with no problems, and I used a cone to get the new gaiter on. Bit tricky under the wing, but a lot easier than taking out the driveshaft. (It did pull out slightly, and dripped a bit of oil, but not much. Seems to have gone back in ok without any more leaking, and hasn't lost enough to worry about topping back up)
Just the beers to finish now.0
