Vauxhall Corsa SXI Dashboard Problems

Hi All,
While driving the car (Vauxhall Corsa 2002), the dashboard appears to randomly lose all power. The speedo, rev counter, fuel gauges all return to stop. The mileage display goes blank and all indication lights go off. The only light that is displayed is the 'Handbrake' warning light. After a few seconds the power will return to the dashboard and all gauges, displays and anticipated lights return to normal.
Oh, and I usually have to tap the dashboard firmly to get the lights working again.
What could be the problem?
Any help would be apreciated.

hi I have had the same problem with my OH 2001 sxi for a while basically it is down to a microchip that controls the dash panel and readings etc it can be replaced but is quite expensive £ 200 + was the estimate i got but by far the best solution I have found is on the advice of a Vauxhall technician is just give the dashboard a firm tap and it goes back to normal - as you have found. Its a common fault apparently:cool:i'm living in a parallel universe0

Thanks so much, I am so relieved now as I thought it was just a problem with my car.0
